Jock Conyngham’s grandfather homesteaded in Montana’s Jefferson Valley before settling on a cattle ranch outside of Wilsall. Jock is a retired research ecologist for a federal environmental research laboratory, where his work was recognized with multiple awards. He is currently the principal of River Research and Restoration LLC. His specialties include multi-scaled assessment and restoration of watersheds, streams and rivers, and riparians, with particular expertise in dam removal and large wood dynamics and utilization. He has implemented or provided technical support to projects across the US and internationally and has served on multiple regional and national technical committees. Jock was Director of Watershed Assessment and Geomorphic Restoration for the national office of Trout Unlimited before his federal career. Recent volunteer service includes the charter Montana board of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers and, currently, the board chair position for Montana Conservation Voters. He passionately enjoys backcountry bowhunting, bird hunting, and fly-fishing in fresh and salt water as well as being father to three remarkable kids.
