EARTHx to Lead Clean Tech & Innovation Program
Service providers, incubators, accelerators, early- to mid-stage companies are the new face of mission-driven investors
DALLAS (May 23, 2017) – EARTHx (formerly Earth Day Texas) is creating a new clean technology & innovation program due to the recent success of the inaugural EarthxE-Capital Summit, held April 20-23 at Fair Park, and co-produced by PRIME Coalition, Austin Technology Incubators. With research indicating between now and 2040, more than $15 trillion will need to be invested into clean technology to avert the worst effects of climate change, EarthxE-Capital Summit is taking the lead to grow a community of mission-driven investors in Texas and beyond.
“It was a privilege to partner with the Earth Day Texas team to gather world experts on energy innovation and deployment in Dallas this April,” said Sarah Kearney, PRIME’s executive director. “Not only was it helpful to our team at PRIME to meet leading Texan philanthropists, but also to bring our message about the importance of market-based solutions to climate change to a region whose ethos is strongly aligned with the power of private markets.”
The EarthxE-Capital Summit encouraged foundations, incubators, national laboratories and cutting-edge early-stage clean technology companies to form partnerships accelerating the future economy. Representing 7 countries and 19 U.S. states, there were approximately 130 private forum attendees, 25 family offices and foundations, 46 early stage companies, and diverse companies focused on energy, water, transportation, waste, materials and smart cities.
“We’ve received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our invited guests that the EarthxE-Capital Summit was one of the most productive gatherings of family offices and foundations they’ve attended to date,” said Nicole Systrom, PRIME’s director of Philanthropic Partnerships.
Due to the success of E-Capital, EARTHx continued the momentum by participating on the renewable energy and clean tech panel of the US China Innovation & Investment Summit held on May 15-17 in Houston, TX. The international summit, which provides a unique opportunity for U.S.-based technology companies to connect with investors and strategic partners from China, featured more than 150 representatives of U.S. technology companies and 200 investors from China.
As part of the summit, 20-30 U.S. companies vied for a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to China and meet with potential tech investors. More than 10 of the companies who competed came from the success of EarthxE-Capital Summit.
“The U.S. clean tech entrepreneurship ecosystem has such potential, yet faces incredible challenges due to an uncertain political climate,” said Matt Myers, creator of EarthxE-Capital Summit. “Thus, the EarthxE-Capital Summit couldn’t have been timelier, and the gathering emanated hope. We all are in this together.”
