HOW TO FEST

PANT HOOT
During the Burundi genocide, one man risks everything to relocate a group of mistreated chimpanzees to Jane Goodall’s Chimp Eden Sanctuary in South Africa. Targeted by the Tutsi, Stany Nyandwi is forced to leave his family behind to safely transport these twenty animals. Alone and cut off for four years from any news of his family’s fate, Stany turns to our closest relatives for support and connection, becoming one of the only humans to master the complicated ‘pant hoot’ chimp language.SHABA
After losing her mother to poachers, an unruly elephant named Shaba is rescued to the mountains of northern Kenya to be rehabilitated back to the wild. The women keepers of the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary have a maternal solution to soften Shaba’s heart and give her a sense of purpose, changing attitudes about both elephants and women alike.

SNOWY
When your home feels like a prison and the conditions make you feel inadequate, how do you tell your landlord if you can’t actually speak? You have a tarot card reading. That’s how one family learned that Snowy, their pet turtle, did not, in fact, enjoy his existence in the basement. With help from a team of experts and his caretaker, Uncle Larry, they ask: Can Snowy be happy, and what would it take?

THE LINESMAN
Two hundred years of logging activity have decimated Myanmar’s natural forests. With the loss of their natural habitat, the Asian Elephant is driven to desperate measures to survive. Searching for food and safety, they invade nearby villages destroying essential crops and posing a lethal risk to villagers. To protect their livelihoods and loved ones, some resort to brutal tactics. With an unprecedented view of the plight of threatened villagers and their massive, majestic foes, we come to truly understand both sides of this deadly struggle.
