Climate Reality Project DFW Chapter: End-of-Year Meeting
November 9, 2019 , 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
We will meet Saturday, November 9 starting at 10am at The Meadows Conference Center, 2900 Live Oak Street, Dallas. This will be an important end-of-year business meeting, and I encourage everyone to attend. This will be our final meeting of 2019.
- First up, chapter leadership. Several members of the Executive Committee will not be continuing in their current roles. Clint Light, Patty Silva, Dottie & Tony Perri are all stepping down. I am deeply appreciative of their work on behalf of the chapter.
Several people have already stepped up to fill rolls for next year. Dan Green will take over education planning Li-Ya Mar and Jeff Lu will be administrators for Facebook in addition to the work they have been doing on Instagram. Karen Magruder will take over as membership chair and will continue her work doing the LiveStream of our meetings.
Kelly Longfellow will continue to head up events planning, and Sharon Dennis will continue as chapter secretary and also as our go-to person for action on the west side of the metroplex.
But we need people for the following:
Monthly meeting planning. [Developing a good series of presenters and getting things arranged for successful meetings is really important work to keep the chapter going]
Chapter Treasurer [We have $0 as a chapter right now, but the national office is promising that we will soon have a bank account; and we will need a treasurer.]
Presentation Venue Development [Members are interested in giving more presentations but aren’t always successful in finding interested groups and organizations. We need someone to work on finding venues]
Publicity [Just what the title suggests]
Don’t want to take on leadership of a committee but have some time to devote to work on behalf of the chapter? We need 1 or 2 people who can spend an hour or two a week on membership to assist the chair of that committee. The same goes for event planning, meeting planning, presentation venue development, & publicity. A committee chair needs a committee with members who can give the work a little time each week!
If you can’t attend the meeting but are interested in doing some chapter-related work in 2020, please let me know.
- We will get the final details on the Ecological Devastation Tourthat the chapter is co-sponsoring with the Poor People’s Campaign.
- We will discuss the possibility of a day of tree planting. Texas Tree Foundation has just circulated several weekend dates on which they will be planting trees in areas of the city that lost large numbers of trees during the recent tornadoes. If we can get 10+ people to commit to a single day, we can make it a chapter event. I will bring the dates, and we’ll take a vote.
- Finally, we will spend some time discussing the upcoming year. What things do you want to see the chapter accomplish? What are the most important things we should be focused on? What are the kinds of outside speakers you would like to hear from; what topics would you like to learn more about? How can the chapter better support you in developing your skills as a presenter or in other work you are doing as a Climate Leader? Put your brainstorming caps on please and bring ideas for 2020!
