EarthX and Texas Veggie Fair have partnered to present EarthxVeg, an exciting and educational vegan lifestyle area, at EarthX 2018. EarthxVeg will highlight vegan food and products while exploring the environmental benefits of plant-based living.
Countless studies in recent years have exposed the environmental consequences of factory farming, increasing interest in vegan diets for a sustainable future.
A 2017 assessment by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations indicated the livestock sector creates more greenhouse gas emissions than transportation at a global level. Large amounts of methane and nitrous oxide, more than 20 times and 250 times more powerful than carbon dioxide, are generated through factory farming.
According to the World Research Institute Protein Scorecard, vegan staples like grains, legumes, soy, and nuts are all low impact as far as greenhouse gas emissions per gram of protein produced. Poultry, pork, and dairy products are all “medium” impact, while beef, lamb, and goat have a dangerously high impact. A study published by Nature found that emissions per gram of protein from production of beef and lamb are about 250 times the emissions from legumes.
EarthxVeg will highlight the plant-based options that are available as alternatives to the products of factory farming, including meat, dairy, and eggs. EarthxVeg exhibitors serving vegan food and beverages include Brewed+Pressed, Homegrown Hounds Dog Deli and Bakery, Mother Beverage, Plant Based Grocery, and Reverie Bakeshop.
Vegan Outreach will offer an educational presentation and distribute their “Fight Climate Change with Diet Change” leaflets that were created in partnership with the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition, an educational nonprofit committed to spreading awareness about the many impacts of factory farming.
Down to Earth Vegan and Vegetarian Food Truck, NadaMoo! Coconut Milk Ice Cream, Samson’s Gourmet Hot Dogs, and Soulgood Food Truck will also cater to guests of EarthxVeg.
