The Learning Gardens is a nature-based education nonprofit located in the Post Oak Savannah near
Athens, Texas. We are dedicated to connecting people of all ages with the natural world through hands-on,
experiential learning. Our mission is to cultivate curiosity, stewardship, and practical life skills by creating
meaningful outdoor experiences that inspire a deeper relationship with the land. Through programs such as
Wednesdays in the Wild, Bushcraft Saturdays, the Texas Permaculture Expo, and seasonal workshops,
participants engage in activities like nature journaling, habitat restoration, food growing, and traditional
skills, including fire building, natural dyeing, and water conservation. Sustainability is embedded in
everything we do, from composting and seed saving to pollinator support and regenerative land practices,
while our space serves as a living classroom that highlights local ecosystems, native plants, and wildlife. By
blending education, creativity, and environmental stewardship, The Learning Gardens empowers
individuals and communities to care for the land and each other.
