Andrew Mangan
Andrew Mangan organized the US Business Council for Sustainable Development (US BCSD) in 1992 by recruiting a group of business leaders from the US and Mexico who were committed to promoting sustainability in businesses. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. As a business concept, it was just emerging in 1992 and everyone wanted to know what it was all about, what were the issues, challenges and opportunities. Through its work over the past 30 years, the US BCSD has learned a number of lessons about the value and what it takes to promote sustainability in business. One of the key lessons is the importance of collaboration and cross-industry partnerships. By working together, companies can achieve more than they can on their own. We’ve driven national and regional sustainability initiatives on water, energy, ecosystems and waste involving business, communities, governments and academia. Everyone has an interest in working together on sustainability.
